HarperCollins Christian Publishing Official Statement on Matthew Warren Passing

HCCPLogoSmallOn Friday evening, April 5, 2013, Zondervan authors Rick and Kay Warren learned of the tragic death of their youngest son, Matthew. For nearly 20 years Zondervan has had the honor and responsibility of publishing books by Rick, Kay and other family members. We have come to know and love them, not only as authors, but as personal friends. We grieve with them, and they are in our thoughts and prayers.

Stan Gundry, Zondervan’s senior vice president and editor-in-chief, has known and worked with the Warrens since the mid-1990s. Stan commented, “In this dark moment, we pray that Rick, Kay, their family and the congregation of Saddleback Valley Community Church will each experience the assurance and comfort of Psalm 23:4, ‘Even though I walk through the darkest valley,…you are with me.’”

“The entire HarperCollins Christian Publishing team offers the Warren family its sincerest condolences,” said Mark Schoenwald the company’s president and CEO. “We are all grieving for their loss and cannot imagine their pain. Rick and Kay have taught so many about the redeeming power of Jesus and in that, we pray their family will find peace.”
