Brian Scharp named vice president of marketing for Nelson Books

Scharp is an experienced publishing professional with over 25 years of marketing experience, having served as the v-p of marketing for Zondervan Bibles as well as the senior v-p of global marketing for Our Daily Bread Ministries. While at Zondervan, his marketing campaigns were awarded the prestigious Effie Award, as well as recognized by Time magazine for exceptional innovation. Daniel Marrs named associate publisher for Nelson Books

(Nashville, TN) July 15, 2021—Thomas Nelson today announced Daniel Marrs as the new associate publisher for Nelson Books, a nonfiction imprint of the publishing group.

In this role, Marrs will lead the editorial strategy for Nelson Books, overseeing the editorial process and helping to shape the acquisitions strategy for the imprint. He will also manage and develop the editorial production team.

Marrs is a seasoned publishing leader, having served most recently as the v-p and editorial director for Ave Maria Press and prior to that, as the publisher for Thomas Nelson Bibles. While at Thomas Nelson, he spearheaded the launch of the New English Translation (NET), implemented the Comfort Print initiative across all Thomas Nelson Bible products, and worked with bestselling authors Max Lucado and John MacArthur on crafting Bible products with their unique commentary.

Marrs holds a Doctor of Philosophy in theology and ethics with minors in church history and philosophy from Baylor University. In addition, he earned a Master of Arts in theology with minors in biblical studies and philosophy from Talbot School of Theology, and a Bachelor of Arts in English literature with a minor in education from Shepherd University.

Brian Dembowczyk named associate publisher for Thomas Nelson Bibles

(Nashville, Tenn.) July 1, 2021—Thomas Nelson today announced Brian Dembowczyk as associate publisher for its Bibles team, which publishes multiple Bible translations: King James Version (KJV), New King James Version (NKJV), and New English Translation (NET).

Dembowczyk spent the last six years as the managing editor and publishing team leader for The Gospel Project, where he spearheaded the brand expansion into Korean, Spanish, French, and Vietnamese. He also led the significant growth of their weekly Bible study resource subscribers. Dembowczyk holds a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and is a Doctor of Philosophy candidate at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he also serves as an adjunct professor.

HarperCollins Christian Publishing announces three editorial promotions for Fiction Group

Becky Monds named associate publisher, Laura Wheeler named acquisitions editor, and Jodi Hughes named senior editor

(Nashville, Tenn.) June 17, 2021— HarperCollins Christian Publishing announced today the promotions of Becky Monds to associate publisher, Laura Wheeler to acquisitions editor, and Jodi Hughes to senior editor for the company’s fiction program, which publishes titles under the Thomas Nelson and Zondervan brands.

Monds is an industry veteran, joining the company thirteen years ago as an editorial assistant and serving in various editorial capacities, most recently as editorial director before being promoted to associate publisher for the Fiction Group. She has edited Christy Award winners including The Painted Castle by Kristy Cambron and The Baggage Handler by David Rawlings, as well as New York Times bestseller The Silent Songbird by Melanie Dickerson.

As associate publisher, Monds is responsible for managing and developing the editorial staff, working with authors, overseeing the publishing schedule for all fiction products, and managing the brands for both Thomas Nelson and Zondervan fiction titles.

In this new role, Laura is responsible for acquiring and editing 12-15 novels per year as well as building and maintaining relationships with authors and agents.

Bostic remarked, “Laura’s instincts for developing stories and for recognizing trends in the market, her capacity to juggle multiple projects without flinching, and her ability to foster strong internal and external relationships have all proven that she is more than ready to take on this new role as acquisitions editor.”

Hughes, recently promoted to senior editor, has been with the company for ten years and has held multiple editorial roles for the fiction team. As senior editor, Hughes will continue to manage editorial functions which includes overseeing metadata and serving as a line editor.

Thomas Nelson longtime editor Debbie Wickwire announces retirement

Dawn Hollomon promoted to acquisitions editor for W Publishing Group

(Nashville, Tenn.) June 15, 2021— Damon Reiss, vice president and publisher of W Publishing Group, an imprint of Thomas Nelson, announced today the impending retirement of 32-year industry veteran Debbie Wickwire, senior acquisitions editor. Dawn Hollomon, senior editor, will move into the acquisitions role.

Wickwire joined Word Publishing in 1989, which was acquired by Thomas Nelson in 1992. Through her long tenure she has worked as a support to the sales team, managed author and brand relationships, and acquired hundreds of book projects. She has been instrumental in developing the publishing phenomenon Heaven Is for Real as well as many other New York Times and CBA bestselling authors such as Anne Graham Lotz, Levi Lusko, Jennie Allen, Kathie Lee Gifford, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and Chip and Joanna Gaines. Her retirement will begin in September.

Susie McEntire-Eaton is the product of a third-generation ranching/rodeoing family from the hills of Southeastern Oklahoma. Raised in a house with four children who cut their teeth on ranch work, sports, singing, and rodeo, Susie says all of these activities helped mold her values and shape her character into the woman she is today. “My mama and daddy didn’t have a lot of money,” she says, “but they had determination and a great work ethic. Dale Williams named associate editor for Thomas Nelson Study Resources

(Grand Rapids, Mich.) February 11, 2021—HarperCollins Christian Publishing today announced Dale Williams as an associate editor for Thomas Nelson Study Resources. 

Williams has been with the organization for two years as a visual content editor focused on the Zondervan Academic, Zondervan Reflective, and Zondervan and Thomas Nelson Bible product lines. He worked on several notable projects including the 2020 NIV Study Bible and The New Testament in Its World by N.T. Wright and Michael F. Bird.  

In his new role, Williams will be responsible for managing backlist development and new title acquisition, as well as editorial process management primarily for Thomas Nelson Study Resources, reporting to Ryan Pazdur, associate publisher for Zondervan Academic, Zondervan Reflective, and Thomas Nelson Study Resources.

Jennifer Gingerich named associate publisher for Nelson Books
