Gabriel Aviles named vice president of marketing for HarperCollins Christian Publishing’s Spanish Language Division

(Nashville, Tenn.) June 3, 2022 — HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP) today announced Gabriel Aviles as vice president of marketing for their Spanish Language Division.

Aviles joined the Spanish Division as senior marketing director in 2019 with over 25 years of marketing experience. During his tenure as marketing leader, the Spanish Division has experienced 25% growth. Aviles has led the successful launch of the C.S. Lewis Spanish brand and the NBLA Bible translation, as well as worked with bestselling authors including Agustín Laje, Daniel Habif, Miguel Nuñez, Christy Muller, Craig Groeschel, Lysa TerKeurst, and Max Lucado.

As vice president of marketing for the Spanish Division, Aviles will continue to lead the marketing strategy and execution for the division.

HarperCollins Christian Publishing wins four 2021 SEPA Awards, including Book of the Year

(Nashville, TN) May 18, 2021 – The Spanish publishing division at HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP) was recognized and honored with four awards, including Book of the Year, at the 2021 Spanish Evangelical Publishing Association (SEPA) banquet on May 13, 2021.

At the awards banquet, hosted in conjunction with the Spanish Christian Trade Show, Expolit Renueva tu mente (Renew Your Mind) by Miguel Nuñez (Editorial Vida) was named the 2021 SEPA Book of the Year. In addition, the book won Book Cover of the Year in the Art & Design category for the cover designed by Aneudys González. The book was birthed from a worldview and apologetics course that Nuñez taught at the International Baptist Church in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic. The book teaches the reader that it is possible to change what they think and live what they believe. 

In addition to Renueva tu mente, the HCCP winning titles were:

  • Una vida mejor (A Better Life) written by Christy Muller (Editorial Vida) – Best-selling Book of the Year: Christian Living
  • Inquebrantables (Unbreakable) written by Daniel Habif (HarperCollins Leadership) – Best-selling Book of the Year: Leadership

HarperCollins Christian Publishing names Matthew McGhee associate publisher for Spanish

(Nashville, TN) April 26, 2021—Today HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP) announced Matthew McGhee as the associate publisher for the Spanish division, which includes Vida and Grupo Nelson.

In this role, McGhee will oversee the editorial acquisition, development, and list management of all Spanish resources published under the Vida and Grupo Nelson imprints, which includes Spanish adult fiction and non-fiction, kids, curriculum, and reference/academic. He will acquire Spanish authors, as well as work with HCCP trade publishing groups to translate products.

McGhee previously worked for Ligonier Ministries, the teaching fellowship of Dr. R.C. Sproul, where he managed Spanish, Portuguese, and French outreach. During his tenure, he launched the Ligonier Library imprint focused on publishing Ligonier Ministry products in non-English languages and led the effort to publish more than 25 titles in Spanish. He also served as project and editorial director of La Biblia de Estudio de La Reforma, the Spanish-language version of the Reformation Study Bible.

McGhee received his Bachelor of Arts in public relations and minor in Spanish from North Carolina State University and holds a Master of Arts in Christian ministry from Shepherds Theological Seminary.

HarperCollins Christian Publishing Wins Seven SEPA Awards

HCCP’s Spanish publishing honored with seven out of thirteen sales awards

(Nashville, TN) August 22, 2019 – The Spanish division at HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP) won a total of seven awards in the bestselling books categories at the annual Spanish Evangelical Publishing Association (SEPA) awards banquet held in Miami, FL in conjunction with the Spanish Christian Trade Show, Expolit. 

In the Bestselling Bible’s categories, HCCP took home two out of three awards.

  • 2018 Bestseller in the category of Bibles: Biblia 28 a la Vez (28 At a Time)

HarperCollins Christian Publishing hires Cristopher Garrido as new Spanish Publisher

(Nashville, TN) July 26, 2018—Today, HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP) announced Cristopher Garrido has joined the company as v-p and publisher for its Spanish publishing program.  HCCP’s Spanish publishing program includes product under the Grupo Nelson, Editorial Vida and CLIE imprints.

Cris Garrido comes to HCCP after developing and directing a successful Spanish publishing program at Lifeway Christian Resources.  In this role, Garrido led both B&H Espan͂ol and the Lifeway International publishing initiatives for the company. During this time, he expanded the company’s Spanish Bible business, as well as taking on the curation of the Spanish point of sale in all Lifeway’s storefronts.   He joined Lifeway as the company’s Spanish acquisitions editor with the task to launch the Spanish trade book program, B&H Libros.  Garrido also has theological training, earning his Masters of Arts in Christian Education from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelors of Business Administration from the Universidad Central del Este in San Pedro, Dominican Republic.

HCCP continues to focus on expanding its reach in the global Spanish-speaking market.   The company will combine Garrido’s successful Spanish book publishing track record, as well as his professional business experience working in Latin America, with its longstanding history of being a leader in the region’s Christian market, to drive its international growth initiatives.

Garrido will also be attending at Expolit 2018 from August 9th through 12th in Miami.
